Guy Gansert, a 66-year-old ER Doctor from Reno, Nevada, was one of 24 contestants on The Golden Bachelorette Season 1 led by Joan Vassos. Joan, a 61-year-old Private School Administrator from Rockville, Maryland, was a contestant The Golden Bachelor Season 1 with Gerry Turner, where she self-eliminated in 12th place in Week 3 to care for her daughter, who had a medical emergency.
Guy was a dark horse on Joan’s Golden Bachelorette season given his lack of screentime in the first half of the season compared to frontrunners like Chock Chapple and Pascal Ibgui or fan-favorites like Charles Ling or Mark Anderson. Guy had his first one-on-one date with Joan in Week 4, where they cooked with each other.

Their connection grew during Guy’s Hometown Date when Joan named him as one of her most emotionally open contestants who was the most clear to her about his feelings for her and intentions. Guy also was one of few contestants to tell Joan that he loved her, only solidifying him more as a contender to win. But are Joan and Guy still together from The Golden Bachelorette? See what happened after the finale.
Are Joan and Guy still together from The Golden Bachelorette?
Joan and Guy are not still together from The Golden Bachelorette after she picked her other finalist, Chock Chapple, a 60-year-old Insurance Executive from Wichita, Kansas, as her winner. Joan gave Chock her final rose at the Final Rose Ceremony in The Golden Bachelorette Season 1 finale, which he accepted. Joan and Chock are also still together, according to Reality Steve.
While Joan and Guy are not still together, Joan hinted that she and Guy were still on good terms in an interview on “The Viall Files” in October 2024 following news that Guy’s ex-wife, Heidi Gansert, had filed a restraining order against him prior to The Golden Bachelorette filming.

“The Golden franchise is a little bit unique because we come here with a lot of past. We’ve lived a lot of life and it doesn’t completely surprise me that there are things that they’re maybe not proud of later on,” she said. “I never saw that side of Guy or of anybody. My interactions with all the guys were pure and lovely and I would have never had any indication that there was any kind of past that he had. I had no idea what the interactions with his ex-wife were at that time.”

She continued, “He was so kind to me and he was so open and he was so vulnerable. He cried. He talked about, you know, finally feeling happy for the first time in so many years. I never in a million years would have guessed that there was any kind of past there.”
She concluded, “I still believe that he’s a kind and good person. You know, maybe he made a mistake. I don’t know. I don’t know anything about [it] other than what you guys know.”
An October 2021 filing for a temporary restraining order against Guy resurfaced in October 2024. Per the filing, Guy’s ex-wife claimed that he “physically tried to threaten” her and “motioned like he was going to shoot me with his hand shaped like a pistol.”

Guy confirmed the filing in an Instagram Statement at the time, explaining that filing was later dropped after he and his wife resolved the situation out of court. “This was an unfortunate situation that occurred during an incredibly stressful time for me and my former spouse and was ultimately resolved when she voluntarily dismissed her request for a protective order,” Guy wrote. “Together, we crafted a resolution that was agreeable to both parties.”
He continued, “My ex-wife and I recently asked the court to seal her application for the protective order as we had hoped to maintain privacy for our family. But, I know that being in the public eye comes responsibility.”
A source told Us Weekly that The Golden Bachelorette‘s production learned from Guy during the show’s backgruond check that an application for a temporary protective order was filed against him by Heidi but confirmed that it was never granted as his ex-wife voluntarily dismissed the application shortly after the filing, so he was cleared to continue through the casting process.
